Music
I’ve been a musician for almost my entire life. I started out when I was 4 with the stereotypical childhood piano lessons. It went well at first, but then my teacher came to a realization: I never actually read the music that she put in front of me – I just heard it and played it. It’s a fairly rare musical gift, known commonly as having big ears. Yea I know that sounds corny, but that’s what they call it.
So I went on and focused on the theory as opposed to sight reading, and learned quite a bit about composition, but never truly focused on my technique. This led to me having tons of ideas, but not being able to express them because I simply didn’t know how to play them properly.
In late 2004, I decided it was time for a fresh start on a new instrument. I wanted to learn to do things right. I picked up guitar, and that’s been my main instrument ever since. At the time that I picked it up I was still living in a college dorm room, at Stevens Institute of Technology. Needless to say, my roommates ears were bleeding while I was learning, but being the awesome guys they are, they put up with it. Kudos to you Sean and Derek for putting up with my horrible playing.
After leaving Stevens Tech and coming back to Miami, I had more time to work on it, and at the beginning of 2006 I started working one on one with a guitarist down here. Over the past year I’d have to say my technique and playing in general has gotten much better, though I’d in no way say that I’m an astounding guitarist.
So now you know how I got here, have a look around the music section to see what I’m doing now that I’m here.
